Introducing Radar Labs and the "friendly" applet
Comments (4)
Ever have a new idea you couldn't wait to hear what other people
think of? We do, all the time! So we're launching Radar Labs as a
playground for sharing new feature ideas and experiments with you. Keep in mind, though, that they may be a bit rough around the edges and push your browser to its limits. Our first release is a friend network exploration tool called friendly, a Java applet
created using the open source Processing programming environment.
friendly lets you see the relationships between you, your friends, and friends-of-your-friends who comment on pictures. Radar members appear as nodes, with bigger nodes indicating a more active poster and lines between the nodes connecting friends. You can drag the nodes to pull apart your network and click on nodes to invite new friends. Here's a snapshot of my network:
Have an interesting network of your own? Click here to login and play with your network in friendly, then click on the camera icon in the lower-left corner to save a snapshot to your channel for your Radar friends to see. Or, let everyone see it, like me, by making it public using the new sharing features and linking to it in a comment on this post!
Have fun, and keep your eye on the Radar Blog for future Radar Labs releases.
